Position Title: Assistant to the Composer
Location: Red House Studio | Austin, TX | Off Airport Blvd.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 1:00 pm (25 hours per week), with occasional irregular, weekend, or night hours for events.
Compensation: $16-18/hr, depending on qualifications. Part-Time, Contract. Paid Weekly.
Position Summary:
A Graham Reynolds Music LLC / Red House Studio Composer Assistant serves as a key component within the overall workflow of the studio. Their responsibilities reflect the schedule and workload of the studio at the given time, fluctuating from major film scores and ballet score albums to live performances and public programs. The Composer Assistant will work closely with Graham Reynolds, his collaborators, and all other studio staff (both on and off site) to guarantee that the designated responsibilities within the given circumstances are achieved and that a safe and productive work environment is maintained. All employees are expected to be courteous and communicative, as well as demonstrate a strong work ethic and attention to detail. We are a small, tightly knit team, and we take pride in producing high quality results through high quality work. While this position is currently contractual, we are seeking a candidate with long-term potential. Responsibilities:
Exact responsibilities will reflect current and ongoing projects, and to a degree, areas of interest and skill sets, but are generally designated within the following:
Audio Work: project setup, editing, recording, mixing, notating, sample library management, recording session set up / tear down, etc.
Studio & Gear Management: setup, load in/out, inventory, organization, troubleshooting, cleaning, etc. This a team job.
Arts Administration: archiving, registering, emailing, scanning, filing, printing, calendar upkeep, and other tasks as it relates to the specific project designated.
Maintain an organized working environment, including a clear, navigable digital sphere, following stated protocols for digital media management.
Keep to confidentiality agreements as it relates to all information learned and or utilized within the role. Always airing on the side of confidentiality, even if a non-disclosure agreement was not signed.
Ensure outgoing or public materials and projects meet studio’s standards for artistic excellence.
Serve as a representative of the studio in a positive manner.
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrable experience with DAW and Notation Softwares (we use Sibelius, Reaper, and Ableton Live)
Demonstrable experience reading music & editing notation, specifically jazz charts & classical notation
Familiarity with recording software & equipment
Eagerness to learn new things in a fast-paced environment
A keen sense of detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Proactive in identifying priorities, with an inherent sense of urgency
Positive, “get things done” attitude
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrable familiarity with Google Drive & related applications
Passion for music and a desire to thrive in the creative arts industry
Previous experience in a recording studio or live music venue
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work irregular, weekend, or night hours on occasion, as necessitated by live shows or events
Reliable transportation
Physical Requirements:
Ability to safely lift 25 lbs
Ability to repeatedly kneel, bend, and squat
Ability to withstand exposure to varying conditions of noise and sound
Ability to withstand prolonged sitting, standing, or walking
